House names

If you live in Mill Hill Park and would like to know the original name of your house, this publication on house names may help you find out.

Written, researched and produced by MHPRA members, Jerome Farrell and Ray Batchelor, the publication includes an interesting introduction which traces the development of the Mill Hill Park Estate from largely open fields in the early 19th century to the area we know today. it also provides background on the use of house names (and the categories they generally fell under) until the growth of the Penny Post necessitated a change in the 1880s to the more logical street numbering system.

The publication is organised into five house name catalogues, one for each street. Each catalogue has an entry for every address with an accompanying photograph.  Full, modern addresses are given, alongside their corresponding historical house names and derivations, where known.
